To coincide with the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce's annual scams awareness campaign, the Australian Institute of Criminology invited consumers who have been affected by scams to participate in a short online survey to help the ACFT improve the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of scam offenders. The 2008 survey has now closed and the ACFT would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey.
The results of the 2007 survey are presented in a paper published by the Australian Institute of Criminology, Raising public awareness of consumer fraud in Australia. The paper also describes the activities undertaken by the ACFT during the 2007 campaign, 'Scams target you—protect yourself', and assesses the impact that the publicity had on official reporting of scams by consumers. It concluded that the campaign was highly effective in raising consumer awareness. You can access this paper from the AIC website.
